A LEARN WHEN YOU LIKE COURSE
Go beyond Anne’s individual story as you watch and listen to Eli Schaap, senior VP for the New York-based Steinhardt Foundation and child of resistance members and Holocaust survivors from Rotterdam.
Since the start of the Covid pandemic, Eli has researched his family’s history in the Netherlands during the Shoah. His mother, a member of the resistance, organised hiding places for more than 100 Jews, while his father survived in hiding. What was the agterhuis (literally, the back house) where so many hid? What are the complexities behind the betrayals that sometimes took place?
Eli will share with us his personal story, the discovery of letters and films written and made by his parents, which allowed him to understand the silence and the trauma of survivors.
