FREE TO ATTEND - BOOKING ESSENTIAL! 🎙️ Ilana Stein & Rabbi Yehuda Stern The Academy and Sydenham Shul are reading TO HEAL A FRACTURED WORLD The Academy Book Club continues to unpack the works of Rabbi Jonathan Sacks ztz’l. Rabbi Sacks, thinker, philosopher and leader, loved books and words, authoring more than 20 during his life. This term, we’re reading “To Heal a Fractured World,” where Rabbi Sacks explores one of his favourite topics: Judaism’s ethics of responsibility. In our post-modern society, the individual’s needs seem to come first. But Rabbi Sacks disagrees. In a profound engagement with the human condition today, Rabbi Sacks argues that to be truly human and ethical is to commit to the life we live together, and the goods we share only exist by virtue of being shared. This book is a clarion call to the outside world to come to its senses. ~ “One of Judaism’s most distinctive and challenging ideas is its ethics of responsibility, the idea that God invites us to become, in the rabbinic phrase, his ‘partners in the world of creation’. The God who created the world in love calls on us to create in love. The God who gave us the gift of freedom asks us to use it to honour and enhance the freedom of others.” – Rabbi Sacks
